Selenite: Liquid Light

Selenite, a stone of purification, vibrates at a high frequency. Named after the Greek goddess of the moon, Selene, it celebrates our feminine energies, which exist within all of us. Shiny, smooth, and semi-transparent, this stone is best known for its ability to purify energy, amplify positive vibrations, and create a comforting, refreshing atmosphere. 

As a crystallized form of the gypsum mineral, selenite is a very soft stone, making it easy to carve; hence, it comes in various shapes. In addition to being physically soft, it is spiritually soft, in that it’s purifying and refreshing. Selenite reminds us to “keep it light,” and to avoid getting weighed down by heavy emotional burdens. 

While this stone isn’t a traditional birthstone, it’s connected to the Cancer zodiac. Like people born under the sign of Cancer, this stone exudes a gentle, calming energy. In Ancient Greece, selenite was sometimes used to make windows, and in Ancient Egypt, it was used for decorative purposes. 

As a stone connected to the crown chakra, selenite is one of the best crystals for connecting us to the spirit realm. When we keep selenite close by, we are encouraged to put our best foot forward and embrace guidance from the Divine.
